So my first rant probably wont be the most well received or popular thing I ever write about. I feel like I am different then most blogging women. I eat gluten. I don’t do anything “natural”. I believe in medicine and doctors. I don’t make my own laundry soap. I don’t coupon.
With that said. What is my first rant? Well. It all started with pinterest. Now don’t get me wrong. I love Pinterest. I waste a lot of time in the food or humor section. The pin that drove me past to the point of insanity and to the brink of blog creation was about giving birth and telling the hospital what to do. It had a list of all these horrible stories and horrible nurses and what you can tell the hospital not to do. I understand that people have horrible experiences in hospitals. I, however, do not think that this one girl’s problem birth should “inspire” women to change everything that is done for a child.
I believe that modern medicine is a gift and is on this earth for a reason. I have NO inkling to go back to the Civil War era and push my kid out with no drugs. I also want my kid to get the tests done after birth, to get the eye medicine on their eyes to stop infection, and to get the Hep B shot. I understand there is always an exception to the rule. My little sister, for one, cannot get any vaccinations because she is allergic to a chemical found in them. Does that mean ALL children should just avoid it? In my opinion NO. I don’t want this blog to start a vaccination fight though. That is not the intent.
What is my intent? I just want to say that I think our society of Pinterest and what not is putting WAY too much pressure on women. People act as if I am a bad mother because I gave my daughter a scoop of ice cream instead of a kale chip. Women are made to believe that everything has to be perfectly organized, perfectly clean and perfectly healthy at all times. I just want my daughter to be happy. Is that too much to ask? I think not. I think french fries are good for kids. They are super yummy. I think that using Tylenol and antibiotics on an ear infection is just fine. Everyone just needs to take a little chill pill on life. Enjoy it. Don’t compare it to everyone else. Oh you DON’T run a booming business on facebook? TOTALLY fine. Oh you DIDN’T take your kids to the zoo, the science center, the pool all in one Spring Break? FINE. Relaxation and some Disney Jr never hurt a kid.
I guess my overall theme is do what you think is best and not what is in style to do or Pinterest tells you to do. If 20 people tell you to raise your children one way but you feel your child needs another, listen to your gut. You are their mother for a reason. Enjoy it.
I really hope I haven’t offended the blog world out there and I will try to have a lighter post/rant next time. Thanks!
